DESCRIPTION:
OPERATION & MAINTENANCE The Batroun waste water treatment plant is designed for a sewer flow covering the southern region of Batroun city with a population of around 3000 people. The sewage network is of dry type therefore no extra flows are expected during the rainy season. The plant is designed for an average flow of 240m³\day that could attain a maximum of 500 m³/day. Our plant uses Activated sludge to treat effectively the sewage water, at the Inlet lift station and during normal operation , the waste water flow pass through a coarse screen (rejects 1a) then lifted by lifting pumps (2U: according to the flow) to a finer screen where solids greater than 2mm are trapped (rejects 1b ) after the water is routed to a degreasing / desanding pit where the floating matters, grease & oil are removed by the penstock WP 12 to a grease/oil sump pit (rejects 3) and the fine sized solid particles settled to the bottom are pumped out with air lift pipe to grit/sand sump pit (rejects 2) the respectively clean water from solids, oil/grease & floating matters goes to a denitrification pit where a 5.5 kw mixer move all water among the length of the pit to get rid of nitrate in anaerobic condition then the water flow to an oxidation pit where bacteria is activated by giving it a large quantity of air through a blower : 32 fine bubble discs installed on the pit bottom . Moreover the main characteristic of this plant when the water go through a deep shaft (60m Ø 63 cm) where the water is oxygenated by five steps diffusers installed 10 m apart in depth supplied by a high pressure compressor which allow effective bacteria digestion of organic materials in the water. The air, sludge and water are air are lifted to a floater in the settling tank , the air is used to divert scum to the Mixed liquor pit and the water will go to the bottom hoped settling tank, where sludge settle at the bottom and then pumped up to the denitrification tank as activated sludge. When the quantity of sludge becomes big enough to influence negatively the plant performance, it will be discharged in the sludge thickening tank where a pump will transport them into special bags inside dewatering unit. Inside the floater tank, clean water is forced to pass through the lamellar clarifier then to an effluent canal send them to a chlorination tank where the clean water is disinfected and sent to an effluent channel, measured and discharged into the sea through 2 outfall pipes. In case EDL power supply failed a generator source keeps the plant running at full capacity. An Over head crane serves to handle equipments (500kg) A Control electrical Panel board located in service room serves to monitor and control and protect all Equipments. For the safety of the personnel: fire extinguishers & 3h emergency light are installed in the plant. Overflow by pass line In case lift station pumps cannot cooperate with the incoming flow or in case of power failure, the water level in the lift station rises above an overflow line & discharge to the sea without treatment. Also for maintenance in lifting pit- or in case of abnormal or dangerous influent (strange color, toxic matters, raining with sand, …) which could harm the useful bacteria and the plant -a weir penstock is closed in MH1 to divert flow to the above said overflow line. __________________________________ LOCATION: BATROUN CLIENT: Municipality of BATROUN CONSULTANT: NJS |

DESCRIPTION: OPERATION & MAINTENANCE The Hammana Waste Water Treatment plant serves the sewer district of Hammana having approximately 4000p. The plant is designed for a maximum instantaneous flow of 14440 m³\day,while the average flow is around 360 m³\day The plant uses the Activated sludge to treat effectively the sewage water. At the Inlet there is one manhole with two 10” gravity discharging pipes. These 2 pipes are used mutually: when one of them is opened the other one is closed to be cleaned. After the manhole, comes the first treatment step: the screening. The screening tank is provided with a by-pass line to the river for urgent use. Before entering by gravity a new distribution box, the two 10” pipes exiting the screening area are joined together. Here comes the second treatment step: Sand and grease removal. Water leaves the distribution box to enter directly tank (1) containing 2 bubbles’ diffusers helping solid particles to settle on the bottom, including an incomplete wall 374 x 51x 300 cm serving as oil & grease interceptor and creating a small tank (2) also provided with 2 bubbles’ diffusers to avoid anaerobic stagnant water. Floattating matters remaining at the top of water are sucked by air lift extraction to a closed benched tank (3) which siphons its water in the first one. Theoretically the tank containing the incomplete wall had to be benched to work as a desander in order to facilitate the settlement of solid particles to the bottom, but as built, tank (3) is the benched one. To extract floattating matters including grease and oil collected in tank (3), It’s imperative to have a 3” to 4” valve at the top of tank (3) closely under the level of the siphon discharge in tank (1). Now the respectively clean water from solids, oil/grease & floatating matters is siphoned from tank (2) to an equalization\homogenization tank (4) by a 10” pipe. Inside the tank (4) there are 21 air bubbles’ diffusers distributed as follows: 3 branches containing each 3 diffusers and 3 others containing each 4 diffusers. Then water passes by gravity through a 10” pipe to enter a small manhole to be distributed equally to the aeration tanks. Inside these 2 tanks, bacteria are activated by having a large quantity of air through 61 Bubbles’ diffusers installed on the pit bottom & by using activated sludge coming from the clarifier. After the aeration, water is collected by two 10” pipes to a distribution box to be equally diverted by four 6” pipes to 4 clarifiers. Each clarifier bottom is cone-shaped to help sludge settlement and extraction by air-lifting. The sludge extracted is partially used as activated sludge for the aeration tank and the other part discharged in the sludge pit. From the top of each clarifier there is a scum air lift removal which also discharges in the oxidation tank. Clean water exits each clarifier by an effluent to a collection box where the chlorination dosing pump discharges in order to start water’s disinfection. Then water is discharged into the river. In case EDL power supply failed a private generator keeps the plant running at full capacity. A Control electrical Panel board located in blowers’ room serves to monitor and control Equipments.
